Sloppy Slipper exchange
Older residents living in Tower Hamlets have been given the chance to take part in a ‘Sloppy Slipper’ exchange.
Age UK East London, funded by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, will be ‘exchanging’ 150 pairs of worn or ill-fitting slippers for a brand new pair to older people aged 65+ on a first come basis. In addition, a further 50 pairs will be made available to residents of Tower Hamlets who have recently been admitted into the Royal London or Mile End hospitals following a fall.
Research has shown that worn out slippers can be a major hazard for older people, especially if they do not fit properly! Although many falls do not cause serious injury the psychological effect can often be worse than the fall itself.
Applications can be downloaded from Age UK East London website www.ageukeastlondon.org.uk or you can call us on 020 8981 7124 to register your interest.
The application process opens on Tuesday 22nd August and closes on Thursday 31st August. The first 150 residents will be contacted on the 1st September where we will advise you of our local collection points.
