Cyclist Raise Over £3,000 for Manorfield Nursery in CHarity Ride

London to Brighton Bike Ride Tackled by Manorfield Supporters for Fundraiser

On Sunday September 16th, a fleet of nearly forty cyclists pedal-powered Manorfield’s new Nursery project forward by a great stretch when they completed the London to Brighton bike ride. The Manorfield team, comprised of trusty staff, devoted partners, friends, family and trustees, all cycled the whopping 55 miles to raise an incredible £3,044 to move forward Manorfield’s plans for a new and much needed Nursery.
The iconic ride, which invites groups to sign up and ride for charitable causes, proved a great opportunity to raise awareness of Manorfield’s new Nursery project  and to contribute to the ongoing fundraising that’s helping push our plans forward to furnish the school with a nursery space that’ll give the children in the Tower  Hamlets area the start they deserve when they first come to school.

After some fantastic fundraising and sponsorship prior to the event (especial thanks to Alexander Cameron, who raised a stupendous £950), the Manorfield fleet met bright and early on Sunday morning, kitted out in their lycras and clipped into their helmets with the daunting prospect of their 55 mile, 6-hour-or-so cycle now lying tangibly ahead of them. Participants ranged from keen cyclists to enthusiastic amateurs who’d decided to tackle the trek for the cause, but the prospect of the ride for all involved – trading off a lazy Sunday for an action-packed adventure – was significant and serious.

Nevertheless, the Manorfield cyclists took off on the beautiful route and proved to be quite the peloton, tackling some fairly hefty hills along the way: Ditchling Beacon, a mile-long hill with a one in ten gradient, always throws up one of the biggest challenges to riders en route. The Manorfield cyclists persisted southward, with a couple of pit stops in the stunning Sussex countryside along the way, and everyone arrived safely in Brighton by the afternoon. We’re extremely grateful to all those who rode to raise money for Manorfield, and we’re thrilled to be that much closer to creating the kind of Nursery that’ll make the start of school a joy for our students, laying the key foundations for their years to come in education. All the funds raised will go directly toward the redevelopment of the Nursery, and will also help to fund the installation of new outdoor play equipment, helping students to get the most out of their school and to feel happy and well exercised alongside their learning.

Fundraising for the Nursery is an ongoing effort and the London to Brighton cycle reminded us again how amazing it is to see another link form in this chain, and how lucky we are to have so many
devoted staff, friends and supporters: thank you all. We exceeded our target for this event, which is a great feeling, and we look forward to keeping you updated on all the progress we’re making.
