Attention Bucket
Attention autism is a group therapy developed by Gina Davies. The programme has four phases which follow developmental attention skills. Groups typically last between 3 minutes (in phase1) and 20 minutes (at phase 3 and 4). Attention autism aims at pupils developing social attention and turn-taking skills in a group setting. These are necessary for effective social interactions in an inclusive setting.
Phase 1- The bucket
- Pupils learn to sit as part of a group and to focus on an adult directed task
Phase 2- Attention builder
- pupils learn to sustain shared attention with an adult for longer amounts of time
Phase 3- Turn taking
- pupils learn to take turns in a group, they learn to understand verbal and non-verbal cues for turns and learn to switch their attention from themselves to a peer as they take a turn
Phase 4 – Independent tasks
- Pupils learn to carry out a task independently and to switch between independent attention to group attention
Expected Impact
- Increased inclusion in group settings
- Increased attention, turn taking and group skills
