Colourful Semantics
Colourful Semantics helps children with understanding questions words (e.g. ‘who?’, ‘what?’, ‘where?’) learning new words and putting words in a sentence. Colourful Semantics uses different colours for different words to build sentences. ‘Who’ words are in orange, ‘what doing’ words (verb/action) are in yellow, ‘what’ words (object/thing) are in green, ‘where’ words are in blue and ‘when’ words (time of the day, season, etc) are in brown’. Using a consistent colour system helps a child to remember which type of words go where in a simple sentence. A colour coded sentence strip can then be used in the classroom to help children to talk in in sentence and to support their writing.
